Discover a New Way to Handle Unhelpful Thoughts

Hey there!

If you’re anything like me - your mind has a tendency to think negatively. And as much we’d like to change our thinking - it’s totally normal!

So, the next time you notice unhelpful thoughts show up, instead of pushing them away or trying to argue with yourself, try naming your mind instead.

For example, maybe you have a tendency to assume the worst. When anxious thoughts come up, try saying to yourself, “Oh, there goes Negative Nancy again!”. Or, when you notice you are beating yourself up again, you can say to yourself, “Oh, there’s the inner critic!”

Does this seem really strange? I get it. We are all taught to get rid of our negative thoughts. But, unfortunately, that doesn’t always work. This strategy offers us a totally new way of doing things.

And the good news? By trying something new, we may actually find something that works. Instead of staying stuck in a cycle of battling our thoughts, we can learn to respond to them in a way that brings more freedom and peace.

Naming our minds can allow us to:

  • Create distance from unhelpful thoughts

  • Stop taking our thoughts so seriously

  • Recognize our thoughts for what they are—just thoughts, not necessarily truths

So - give it a try and see how it works!

All the best,

Jayne
